Brangus is the only synthetic/composite breed in South Africa that is naturally homozygous polled. As a result, you will have up to 60% polled animals in your first generation by using Brangus bulls on any herd. There are only three naturally polled breeds in SA, making Brangus one of the ultimate favourites among them all. Being naturally polled, Brangus calves are quicker to process, easier to handle, and save on dehorning costs.
The Brangus, through rigorous natural selection, has developed disease resistance, overall hardiness, and outstanding maternal instincts. The combination of two highly successful parent breeds results in these quality traits.
Brangus SA is paying a lot of attention to the constitution of our animals. Constitution refers to the ability to maintain efficient performance and good condition throughout the year with minimal requirements. With great constitution, animals will become pregnant in a shorter time.
Well-known for their exceptional mothering ability, Brangus and Brangus F1 cross females offer great calving ease, high fertility, and good temperament. Brangus females also come with great survival instincts, milk production, and functional udders that are easy to suckle on.
Calving ease refers to the ability of a cow to give birth to a calf that is between 7-8% of her own body weight at calving. By using Brangus bulls, you can increase the ease of calving in any herd. Brangus has the ability to breed calves that grow and perform extremely well.
Hair coat traits are used as indicators of animal adaptability because of their importance for heat regulation and resistance to parasites. For South Africa’s diverse landscape, this is a great advantage.
